Legal Notice
My Vehicle Solutions LTD
In the UK, remapping a car (modifying the engine's software) is legal, but it's crucial to be aware of the potential legal and insurance implications. You must inform your insurance company about the remapping, as it's considered a modification that can affect the vehicle's performance and risk profile. Failure to disclose this information could invalidate your insurance policy.
Legality of Remapping:
- Remapping itself is generally legal, meaning there's no specific law prohibiting the adjustment or reprogramming of a vehicle's ECU (Engine Control Unit)
- Remapping can affect your car's warranty and potentially its ability to pass an MOT if it involves deleting or tampering with emissions control systems.
- If the remapping results in the car no longer meeting the legal emissions requirements, it could be deemed illegal,
Warranty:
- Remapping can potentially void your car's manufacturer warranty, especially if it's discovered that the ECU has been tampered with.
- If you fail to inform your vehicle's manufacture that your car's ECU software has been modified and they perform software updates this may result in the dealership wiping our modified file from the Vehicle's ECU and as such it will need to be redone again at your expense .
Legal Consequences:
- My vehicle solutions LTD take no responsibility for any damage caused by modifying your vehicle.
